BreakIn
Update 5/22 - fixed the bounces so they're more Breakout-y, fixed the screen region issue (still opens a popup for it though), tweaked a bunch of stuff, and added a new item (red - "FLUC") which makes the game even worse and more chaotic to play (essentially makes every ball speed up and slow down at different rates).
Very dumb, bad, and easy game I made
Really though
Beginning is too slow, ending is too fast, the ball doesn't bounce right (should deflect differently depending where it hits the paddle, like in Breakout). It's very dumb. But I think it's relatively fun, at least in a "NUMBER GO UP" and "sensory overload" way. But I'm done with it. It ended up considerably more complex than I had initially intended, I kept having ideas for something new to add and then I'd figure out how to do it. However, it did give me an idea to make a substantially more chaotic, sensory overloaded, "what the hell is even going on here" kind of game, which I might try doing at some point, which I think should allow for a lot of crazy sound stuff. (Yes, this is all in the pursuit of sound design, as always...)
This was mostly just an exercise in getting familiar with and comfortable in Godot, I learned a lot of very useful stuff over the course of making this, and had a lot of fun working on it! Hope you try it out and have fun! Please comment the score you get if you do, I'm not actually sure how high it can get but it's probably pretty insane. I think I've usually gotten around 25k.
(Tip for increasing score - the multiplier resets when a ball hits the paddle, which means that once things are kicking off and there are a ton of balls, you want to *avoid* hitting the balls, and instead focus on just getting the blue items (which repel balls).)
Also for some reason it isn't displaying correctly. My viewport dimensions in Godot are set correctly, it looks correct when playing it in the engine, but for some reason itch.io isn't playing it embedded in the page and using a popup that displays way more than what the viewport *should* be. Not sure what's up with that, I might try to fix it later. Also you need to click in the popup window to hear the sound effects.
